VAMPIRE
CREATION
GUIDELINES

To create a character for Avernus, if you are an existing member, you first must determine if you have any or wish to spend any XP on the character at character creation by making an Ancillae or Elder rather than a Neonate. If you wish either, you must submit the additional XP listed at creation. To do this, follow the Neonate creation guildlines below, and then increase the stats based on Ancillae or Elder accordingly. Note: these are approval category characters. You can spend up to 20XP on a character before it requires any approval. If you are interested in the Generation Lottery, submit your character with the Generation field left blank.

Neonate:
This is the standard method for creating a new character. Gen 15th-11th (Pretender Elder Creation *)

Choose Clan (add Advantages and Disadvantages as applicable from LotN)
Choose Nature & Demeanor (playing it affords you one possible point of Will recovery per night)
Prioritize Attributes (7/5/3) - See Table
Choose Traits (Attributes):
  Choose 5 Abilities
  Choose 3 Disciplines

Choose 5 Backgrounds (Sabbat neonates get no Backrounds but receive instead 1 basic in-clan discipline)
Note Blood & Willpower - See Table

Note your Virutes:

7points to distribute between Courage, Conscience/Conviction and Self-Control/Instinct. You receive 1pt. free in Courage, Conscience and Self-Control. If you are on a Path of Enlightenment (Road for Dark Ages characters), lose the free point in the appropriate category where your path follows Instinct or Conviction instead of Conscience and Self-Control. Your Morality Rating is your Self-Control/Instinct and Conscience/Conviction, averaged rounded up. Note it along with your Morality.
Assign 1 Status Trait (for your sect or clan):
  "Acknowledged" for Camarilla
  "Initiated" for Sabbat
"Branded" for Black Hand (unhealthy to not be "Initiated" and "Proven" as well as you would not be True Sabbat)
Pick 0-5 Negative Traits = +1 freebee point each
Optional: Pick 1 Derangement or lose a virtue = +2 freebies (Maximum 1; Malkavians: +1 extra Derangement)
Select Merits & Flaws at cost (Max. 7 Flaws for points)
Max. Starting Disipline: Basic

What are Freebee Points?
Free points, also called "freebies" are points that you are given to spend at character creation only. The spending scale is somewhat reduced for these than they are for XP, and they can be spent on things that you cannot buy after character creation. Spend them wisely! When designing a vampire Neonate, you automatically get 5 Freebies to distribute throughout your character, but you can also gain freebies during creation from:

  • Taking Negative Traits - you may select up to 5 and get one freebie per Negative you choose.
  • Taking a Derangement which affords you 2 freebies, but you may take only one.
  • You may take one less Morality Trait than you are entitled to, and receive 2 additional freebies.
  • You may take up to 7 points of Flaws for which you receive a freebie point per point of Flaw taken.

How do I spend these Freebee Points?

  • Merits: At the cost of the Merit to a limit of 7 points, some take approval. Ask to your Storyteller and assume that any combat merit or merit from a non-vampire book may take approval.
  • Willpower: 3 freebies per extra level, to a Maximum which is listed under your Generational Maximum (see: table to the right)
  • Morality - Path/Humanity Level: 3 Freebies per level
  • Virtues: 2 freebies per level
  • Disciplines: Cost 3 freebies per basic in-clan discipline level and so on up the scale as in the table noted below. You are entitled to 3 levels of in-clan basics at the start, but may buy more with freebies as well. Sabbat are entitled to 4 basic levels to start. With 3 freebies you may purchase a basic of any non-clan specific out-of-clan discipline at creation subject to approval. However, to take this out-of-clan, you must have a minimum of one level of each of your in-clan disciplines or, according to Caitiff mechanic, you will be "clanless". The first three disciplines you learn are your "in-clans" and if these do not match with those of your proposed clan, you will be an outcast.
  • Traits, Abilities, Backgrounds: 1 freebie each.
  • Rituals: 2 freebies each

The Archetypes

The Archetypes are a list of possible Natures and Demeanors. As they can be bid against a player, much like a Negative Trait, they must also conform to a standardized list (3rd edition ruling). The available list for all SLAFC Characters is a follows:

Your Sire

It is important that you select a sire though often players fail to note who it is. SLAFC keeps a comprehensive geneology and with so many characters potentially related, it is important to know where you came from. You can indeed make up your sire but if you wish, the comprehensive White Wolf geneology assembled by PrimalFish.

Attributes

Attributes are the traits that you will be using to describe your actions in Bids. These are specific words fitting three categories, Physical, Social and Mental. You will be asked to distribute trait numbers across these three categories (7/5/3 for Neonates) and then select the trait names from the list below:
